ITC is honored to have Master Ron M Glaves and his students, Mr James Childs, Mr Kristjan Trenter and Mr Riley Boomer from Fort Nelson Taekwon-Do and Hapkido Club in Canada to join us for training on the 2nd August 2013 and 4th August 2013. Master Glaves also returned to Singapore and joined us for 2 more sessions on the 23rd August 2013 and 25th August 2013.

Friday, 2nd August 2013
The training started out with Jeremy Tan Sir who kicked started the session with some warm up exercises before going through the colour belt patterns, some kicking techniques and its application before handing the class over to Master Glaves for the 2nd part of the lesson.

Master Glaves shared with us many self-defense and sparring techniques used in tournaments in North Amercia, as well as taking us through many drills and shared with us how Taekwon-Do and Hapkido blends. We ended the day with a group photograph.

We started the day with warm up and stretching exercises conducted by Sir himself before going through the black belt patterns. A few of our seniors also demonstrated the higher degree black belt patterns to Master Glaves and his students.

After that, Master Glaves continued with the rest of the training, sharing with us even more techniques for self-defense and sparring/fighting drills for defending ourselves on the streets. The kicking pads and shields were held by our guests’ themselves as they endured many of our kicks and attacks when we went through the drills.

The session ended off with a little demonstration from Master Glaves, on the application of the self-defense locks that he had taught us. It was truly an eye opener on the different techniques mentioned and shown to us. The class ended with the students from ITC bowing and shaking hands with Master Glaves and his students to thank them for sharing with us their knowledge. Master Glaves presented a plaque to Master Sng to show his appreciation to ITC and Master Sng also presented Master Glaves with a plaque as an appreciation for conducting the training session as well as bringing such an insightful lesson to us all.

Thus ends the 2 quick days of training and sharing session from Master Glaves and his students from Fort Nelson Taekwon-Do & Hapkido Club.

Master Glaves himself returns to ITC after his trip in Taiwan to continue to share with us. The session started out with Dennis Sir taking the warm up session before handing the class over to Master Glaves to start the kicking drills on the pads. The class lined up for some kicking sets and drills with everyone, including the children attempting the kicking sets introduced by Master Glave. That lasted till class ended and everyone shook hands to appreciate Master Glave’s teachings.

This time, our very own Shaun Sir conducted the warm up for this session of the class. Making sure that we warm up our hands and legs in order to get ourselves ready for the drills we are about to be given by Master Glaves himself
We first did a few sets of combination and consecutive kicks as a class to get ourselves introduced to the different kicks thought by Master Glaves. After that, similar to Friday, we were divided into groups lined up to do kicking drills. We were introduced to many different kicks, although they may be named differently from us but we were able to interpret what kick we were told and executed them.

After class, Master Glaves had a small Q&A session with some of the classmates and we were given a preview of what was their grading syllabus which was different from our grading syllabus. With that we end our training session with Master Glaves.

There was no training held that day (phew!), instead a total of 10 of us (Master Sng, Shaun Sir, Jeremy Sir, Dennis Sir, Carnation Mdm, Yee Jiat Sir, James Sir, Ethan Sir, Justina Mdm, and myself) gathered together with Mr and Mrs Glaves for a meal at Ding Tai Fung opposite our dojang along Tai Seng Street.

The 12 of us were served to some delicious Chinese delicacies which included the famous Xiao Long Bao, Zha Jiang Mian, Fried Rice, Beef Stew Noodles to name a few. We all had a magnificent time eating and clearing the food as they came in, in order to make space for the next few dishes. It was really great to gather as a group to have a meal to relax with our guests.

Soon after the dinner, it was time to part ways and say goodbye to Mr and Mrs Ron Glaves.

On behalf of Master Sng and ITC, I wish Master Glaves a safe trip back to Canada and hope that he and his students will return soon to ITC to train together as well as to exchange ideas and tips on Taekwon-Do itself. Also, I would like to thank Master Ron Glaves and his students, Mr James Childs, Mr Kristjan Trenter and Mr Riley Boomer for joining us in the lesson and warming-up as well as taking us through and guiding us throughout the drills and techniques. We wish them all the best in their future endeavours and a very good and fruitful summer.
