Island Taekwon-Do Centre 21st Anniversary Dinner

On the 30th of March 2013, Island Taekwon-Do Centre’s 21st Anniversary was celebrated with a traditional annual dinner in a famous restaurant situated in Chinatown, Spring Court Restaurant. This was the first time I had attended the annual Anniversary Dinner and it was truly an unforgettable evening. In the lead-up to the dinner, the managing committee had decided that unlike the previous dinners, this dinner would be served to us, rather than the previous dinners which were buffets.

Before the dinner started, we were each presented with our ticket, a door gift of a very small and cute 4GB thumb drive with the ITC logo emblazoned on its front, as well as a random playing card. We were all curious to why we were given the playing card, but we were enlightened shortly afterwards.

The dinner began with Master Daniel Sng giving a speech on how delighted he was to be attending ITC’s 21st Anniversary Dinner, as well as summarising the competitions held this year, and thanking all those who made the dinner possible. All his students, having trained under him for a number of years are very grateful for his guidance.

The emcee for the night, Mr Shaun Chua took over shortly after Master Sng’s speech. We began with a quick ice-breaker involving the random playing cards we were given, which was to basically try to find four other people who had cards which were able to make the best poker hand. It was a fun game which lightened the atmosphere of the dinner, and was a fantastic start to the evening.

Dinner was soon served, and the meals were fantastic and very delicious. Whilst we were enjoying our scrumptious meals, we enjoyed brilliant performances from Regine and Ivy. They performed a solo each, as well as a duet. We also had a surprise performance from our chairperson Mdm Carnation Chai! She sang a lovely Chinese song to commemorate ITC’s 21st birthday.

Then we had the lucky draw which everyone participated in as there were many fantastic prizes up for grabs, such as an iPad mini, a Polaroid camera, and many others. We also watched a Best Dressed competition, where members of the audience which were dressed well to the theme of the dinner – Shanghai Soiree, were invited up on stage to pose in front of everyone. Some of the poses were very entertaining and comedic to watch.

After the games, we had a cake cutting session to celebrate ITC’s 21st Anniversary and all the committee members who helped organise this event were invited on stage, together with Master Sng and his wife, Aunty Karen.

Overall, it was a fantastic, fun and joyful evening which I am sure that all of us attending had enjoyed very much. I’d like to thank on behalf of everyone who attended the dinner, Master Daniel Sng, for ITC would not be where it is without him, the managing committee, which included Mdm Carnation Chai, Mr Justin Gan, Mr Joel Mok, Mr Shuan Chua, Mr Thian Chuan Kai, Mr Dennis Wan, and everyone else who helped in one way or another. I sincerely hope that ITC has a fantastic future ahead, and we can look forward to many more dinners like this one!
