Island Taekwon-Do Centre held its Annual Taekwon-Do Championship at Henry Park Primary School on Saturday 28th of May, 2011, with the chairman for this year being Wu Jieming.

It was my first ITC Taekwon-Do Championship, having competed in Australia previously, and I can honestly say I was very impressed! The organisation of the event was spot on, the venue and equipment were perfect, and the seniors that helped run the event were very professional. The entire championship ran very smoothly and all the competitors had a great time.

The day started off with a quick warm-up session lead by Joel Mok, and then straight away the events began. There were more events this year than previously with Demonstration being one of the new events included this year. This was one of my personal highlights of the day as it was brilliant to see the students come up with some very impressive self-defence techniques and routines! Each of the competitors had practiced their routines so much and it really showed on the day.

The championships came to a close with a medal ceremony, with many medals given out to all of the winners as they shook hands with the umpires and the chairman. Everyone left the venue with a gigantic smile on their face, knowing they performed their very best in the championship. There was not one student who didn’t give it everything they had during the championship and I would like to thank Wu Jieming, the organising team, and all of the other people who helped make this championship such a great success.

I’m certainly looking forward to the next one – see you then!
