Island Taekwon-Do Centre 19th Anniversary Dinner

Date: 27 March 2011, Venue: Holiday Inn Singapore Orchard City Centre

You would be forgiven if the question “Who was that masked man?”, crossed your mind on the evening of  27 March, 2011, when the Island Taekwon-Do members gathered for their annual dinner at the Holiday Inn Singapore Orchard City Centre. This year’s theme was a Masquerade, with some members gamely dressing up as the Phantom of the Opera, Geisha and Gondoliers. For the less bold, masks were provided to give the evening a touch of intrigue and mystery.

Host master Shameer invited Master Sng to offer a few words on the progress of Island Taekwon-Do over the years and the challenges it faces. Guests were then invited to partake of the buffet during which time they were also entertained by the musical stylings of Island Taekwon-Do’s own Steven Slater, his son Joshua and their friend Sam.

Games kept the audience in stitches with the Guess the Price table challenge which saw a wide difference in prices and some very unusual names given to table groupings examples. A pairs dancing competition saw the lovely Mrs Klaus and Mr Jimmy walk away with top honours though Mr Hoo and Mr Ng Jia Sheng (yes, that’s two misters… remember Blades of Glory!) gave them a real run for their money. A unique take on the old favourite of charades had several young competitors completely baffled but Justina Sun ultimately figured out what her group was attempting to portray.

The lucky draw was interspersed between numbers by the singers and games and ultimately saw Wu Yongming winning the top prize of a $500 cash voucher.

The traditional cake cutting ceremony was followed by certificate presentations to the dinner committee members and sponsors. Members then said their good nights having had a lovely evening in the presence of friends and supporters of the Island Taekwon- Do family. See you at the 20th Anniversary in 2012.
